The Home Gateway Initiative (HGI) is an open forum launched by Telcos in December 2004 with the aim to release specifications of the home gateway. The HGI specification 1.0 has been published in July 2006, with 2.0 updates and additions in September 2007 and both consolidated in the merged version of the "Residential Profile" specification for the Home Gateway published on January 2008.
The HGI is boosting the market of home communication services and driving the development of residential gateways supporting the delivery of multiple-play services.
