NGOSS SOA: Generating TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) Service Contracts

This one and a half-day course provides delegates with a practical hands-on experience in using AutomagicKB’s approach to the analysis and design of NGOSS-styled Service-Contracts. The course uses the TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) to explore the requirements of a typical Service Provider to identify opportunities for business process automation. AutomagicKB’s approach extends the standardized Business Process Framework (eTOM) business processes to the elemental level at which point SOA Process Services become evident. A fictitious company 'EveryThing Works' is used to characterize the context of the challenge.

The course is intended for those who have a basic understanding of the NGOSS framework and its reference models (particularly the Business Process Framework (eTOM)) and are familiar with UML modeling. Delegates will leave the course understanding a specific third party methodology for making practical application of the NGOSS, Business Process Framework (eTOM) and reference models to create NGOSS-styled SOA Process and Business Service Contracts.

This course is geared towards business analysts, enterprise and solution architects, and solution designers.
Pre-requisites:

Attendees should have familiarity with UML 2 and have a good understanding of the TM Forum Information Framework (SID). Length: One and a half days
Upon completion, delegates will be able to:
  • Leave the course with the view that using NGOSS to develop SOA Process and Task-centric Business Service Contracts is realistic and practical;
  • Understand how to extend the TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) to the elemental level;
  • Understand how to create platform-neutral models (Business & System View Contracts) that will support the auto-generation of executable artifacts (Implementation & Deployment View Contracts);
  • Have confidence in using the NGOSS-styled SOA methodology by engaging in a hands-on experience through practical exercises.
Agenda:
  • Overview of the TM Forum NGOSS framework (Self-paced Online Training Unit);
  • Overview of the AutoMagicKB NGOSS-styled SOA using MDA methodology;
  • Scope the 'Everything Works' challenge;
  • Explore the TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) using Process Patterns;
  • Work Hands-On Exercises:
    • Use a business-process driven approach to document the understanding of the 'Everything Works' challenge as a draft Business Contract;
    • Identifying SOA Service Candidates required by the business process model - Process & Task-centric;
    • Work the Service Candidates (Business View) into Service Specifications (System View);
    • Specify the system process automation design as an NGOSS System View Contract that utilizes the identified SOA Services;
    • Demonstrate a possible Model-driven implementation of the designed SOA Process System View Contract.
