| Thoughts from the Conference Chair | Last weeks Management World Asia, held in the Singapore Raffles Convention Center, was another key milestone for TM Forum in Asia. A strong attendance of over 200 people came to hear and learn, discuss and debate, network and do business. Without doubt Management World Asia, was a key conference for anyone involved in the management challenges of the communications industry in Asia. If you weren’t able to make it, you missed experiencing a most vibrant atmosphere for business development and cutting-edge solutions.
During the keynote sessions on Wednesday morning, Dr Liang Wu, Senior Vice President of PCCW and Dr. Lu, Chairman & CEO of Chungwa Telecom both highlighted the sophisticated management challenges and achievements in these two leading Asian carriers. Dr Wu, explained PCCW’s strategy in using its strength in fixed line infrastructure to transform itself into a telco offering quad-play and integrated media services. Recognizing that revenue growth from traditional voice and data services is not a sustainable business model, PCCW developed the infrastructure to offer broadband Internet and IPTV using its fixed-line infrastructure. What’s more, the operator moved quickly to make available the same services on its mobile network. Dr. Lu talked about the challenges Chungwa Telecom face in offering a widely diverse service portfolio, and in particular highlighted the work CHT have done in developing proof of concept demonstrations of important services within the TM Forum Catalyst program. Advertising based services and taking friction out of the value chain both featured highly in some of the other presentations on the first day.
The second day was dominated by the concept and the challenges of transformation. In particular, Dr. Cheng Gang, GM IT for China Mobile explained to the audience how OSS/BSS is integral to China Mobile’s transformation initiatives. Many of the presentations also stressed how important it was for operators to become more involved with the TMF initiatives and contribute via their own unique experiences.
Through conferences like Management World Asia, the TM Forum continues to set the standard for the industry, and as management steps more and more into the spotlight, be sure you stay informed by sticking close to the TM Forum.
