IG1291 MAMA defined CSP Value Streams for Autonomous Operations v3.0.0

Autonomous Operations (AO) technology initiatives are leveraging new digital technologies and capabilities to deliver business value to many industries, through increased process efficiency, adaptability, quality and control. However, these investments can be large, with overlapping value propositions, which can make it very difficult to determine the optimum investment strategy. Therefore, an effective method is required to evaluate the value which AO can deliver to different operational areas so that effective investment decisions can be made.

The Measuring and Managing Autonomy (MAMA) project addresses this need by creating a value-stream-based methodology to effectively identify and communicate the value of AO projects (AI-CLA, AN, AIOps, AI Service Management etc.) to a business.

The concept of value streams and value stages is introduced, and then using a series of value streams as examples, a value framework is proposed which can be used to evaluate the value items and associated metrics of individual value streams. This will allow the likely impact of AO investments on each value stream to be quantitatively evaluated, leading to an estimate of the likely ROI of each proposed investment.

This value framework can then act as the foundation for an expanding portfolio of operational value streams which TM Forum members can contribute to and utilize in their own AO investment decisions.
