Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the development of computer systems capable of performing tasks that normally require human intelligence; this includes visual perception (such as is required for self-driving cars), speech recognition (for example Siri), decision making and translation between languages (think, Google Translate). This differs from analytics, which is often confused with AI as analytics monitors data to look for patterns and anomalies without applying intelligence. Automation is yet another term that often gets thrown into the mix, yet automation within telecoms refers to the automation of processes that were previously carried out by people. AI is an enabling technology that may (or may not) help with the process of automation.
