This is our fourth Insights Research report on big data analytics. Big data has all the components for long-term success but with some serious short-term challenges that must be resolved first, including a huge, sometimes-hazy scope, a high level of complexity, immature technology, and lots and lots of ‘dirty’ data to complicate matters. Despite this, many service providers are making progress in what remains an early-stage market.
In this report we:
- discuss the potential for big data analytics and propose a layered approach to success;
- report the results of our survey of 35 service providers;
- look at predictive analytics, discussing whether service providers should be hiring chief data officers;
- explain the importance of good governance processes
Author Rob Rich also outlines recommendations for what service provider should do in order to be successful with a big data strategy.
