This document provides a specification for an AI Model Datasheet. The purpose of the datasheet is to capture pertinent information about AI models in a consistent manner, such that potential consumers of the model can determine whether it suits their purpose and, if so, how to deploy the model safely and effectively. By defining the Model Datasheet specification we hope to promote: Consistent reporting of model ‘metadata’ to aid in understanding and comparing models. Minimum standards of information across such areas as model provenance, metrics, limitations and restrictions. Best practice, especially concerning model performance metrics. The primary purpose of this document is to specify Model Datasheets in the form of a JSON schema. In addition to this we discuss the relationship of this work to similar efforts from Google and IBM. We also consider requirements for Model Datasheets by examining a number of role-based use cases and identify priorities for future work on Model Datasheets.
