TR316 Inference Builder ODA Component Requirements v1.0.0

Inference management is a critical component of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) systems, particularly in areas like natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, and expert systems. It refers to the set of processes that manage, direct and control “inferences” or “conclusions” drawn by an AI or ML model from the data it has been trained on. As a piece of software, it is used in various fields, such as in data science day-to-day management of AI models to enable automated tracking of inferences, validating them, correcting them, explaining them and optimizing them.

This software component is required to serve as a critical component for using: embedding or leveraging AI Models for their use cases. As a piece of managed software, it plays the role of enhancing trust and accountability through providing explainable inferences, so users can better understand an AI model’s decision-making process and trust its outputs, improving accuracy by helping to identify and correct errors, leading to more accurate and reliable model outputs, increasing AI model utility efficiency by optimizing inference process to reduce computational costs and improve model performance, and as well to support regulatory compliance – where Inference management helps ensure that AI and ML systems comply with regulations and standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, and others.
