Historically, telecoms operators viewed their OSS/BSS as a series of applications, that needed to be organized and structured to ensure smooth operations. However, with new technologies such as 5G and AI, it’s necessary to shift from this application-focused perspective to a more functional one.
The Functional Framework is an evolution of the previous legacy Application Framework and was developed by removing the application context. Instead, it breaks down the activities into basic and unique system functional components. This approach helps service-oriented enterprises identify the essential building blocks that drive their operations.
This course aims to explain the origins of the Functional Framework and provide an overview of its scope, structure, and the benefits it offers when aligned with the other Open Digital Architecture (ODA) frameworks. It also explores the purpose of ODA and its relationship to the Functional Framework.
