Maximizing Profitability with NFV Orchestration
This Catalyst illustrates how service providers can harness real-time financial and quality of service analytics to optimize the business value of NFV orchestration. The previous phase developed a closed-loop control system composed of data collection, analytics, optimization, dynamic policies and NFV orchestration. This phase improves the intelligence of the control system by factoring in the financial aspects of service operation in real time. This may involve new metrics, policy model extensions and optimization algorithms.

Customer Premises Equipment Virtualization
The first phase of this Catalyst developed procedural guidelines for the self-installation of virtualized residential gateways with zero-touch ordering, provisioning and enhanced troubleshooting. It also demonstrated the agility of offering value-added services like sophisticated parental controls. The next phase expands the scope by introducing an automated closed-loop system that enables proactive service assurance via monitoring, testing and analytics to optimize customer experience and reduce operational costs. This phase also evaluates the migration paths and operational metrics that a service provider needs to consider when moving to a virtualized CPE platform.

Closing the Loop – Next Phase
This project demonstrates a practical implementation of closed loop functionality used to heal and optimize converged networks running on both traditional and virtualized infrastructures. It uses a variety of network and service KPIs to detect inefficiencies and churn/revenue risk conditions to automate core & RAN optimization. It uses service level information and customer experience data to analyze the direct impact of scaling, healing and optimization on services and customers. This is demonstrated at two levels, either through direct management commands or through a higher level policy modification.
