Functional Architecture
Overview
The ODA Functional Architecture supports organizations' transformation to a digital-native enterprise architecture.
Why is this important?
Having normative standards for refactoring traditional BSS/OSS into a digital-native architecture facilitates:
- Simplification of business operations and improved customer centricity
- Digital business operations' responsiveness and agility
- The ability to engage in multi-sided and platform-based business models
The ODA Functional Architecture Guidebook defines how to group the ODA functions to realize the Open Digital Architecture Concepts & Principles. It clarifies the decoupling of functions, componentisation of applications, and inclusion of intelligence systems.
Additionally, the Guidebook provides mappings to the Business Process Framework (eTOM) and Information Framework (SID), which helps distil new requirements to fulfil the changing dynamics of business, management and operations in a digital world.
How can this help me?
Developing existing systems to align with the ODA Functional Architecture and Functional Framework is a practical way for your organisation to incorporate the ODA concepts and principles into internal transformation projects.
What has been accomplished so far?
The Functional Framework definitions and ODA principles are already being validated through the development of ODA Components.
For practical examples of how organisations can use the Functional Framework, read the ODA Functional Architecture Exploratory Report.
Many examples focus on decoupling core commerce functions from production functions, effectively breaking the tight coupling between the commercial offer and the provision of service. This decoupling approach simultaneously delivers both product management and network operational agility. Network as a Service is a practical example of decoupling.
