Service Domain : Public Package
One of the goals of the SID model is to enable a seamless transition from business concepts and definitions to other domains, such as networking. This addendum covers the definition of services.
In looking at ‘”Service”, the first problem is one of terminology. Service means many things to many people. For example, many people use the words “Product” and “Service” interchangeably. In addition, though Resources are usually not confused with Services, the relationships between different types of Resources and a Service are confusing to many people.
Business entities in the Product domain represent what is offered to the market. This domain deals with such things as the development, promotion, pricing, and retirement of product offerings, as well as instances of offerings procured by customers and others. Business entities in the Service and Resource domain represent (among other concepts) how products offered to the market are implemented.
This Addendum is built with the express purpose of serving as a foundation for other Service (sub-) models to fit into. Conceptually, this Addendum is a framework, with other Service models (e.g., an MPLS VPN model) “plugging into” it.
